Rough month. Got hit by a virus
and have been trying to reccover. I've got most of my computer
back, but don't have access to my historical email yet, so all of
you who contacted me after the last newsletter with events,
information, or just SRM Associates info, I've still got your email in
the file, but can't access it right now. If you want to get to me
before I get back up and fully functional, you'll need to touch base
with me again so that I've got your contact info. By the way, it
is possible to install virus software and if you are already infected,
some viruses will corrupt the virus software so you're still in
trouble. It's also subtle, so you may miss it unless you're
looking for it.
Look here
for a link to the new softcover of Keeping Our Chemical Facilities
Safe.
I apologize for a short newsletter but next month hope to be back up to
full length. Keep those events, articles and information coming
in! Stay safe and see you next month!

PHMSA Consumer Fireworks Advisory Letter:
(Courtesy of Lloyd Bokman at NASTTPO)
I would like to make you aware of a consumer fireworks advisory letter
PHMSA issued on June 24th 2009. PHMSA is requesting the assistances of
the National Fire Academy and The International Association of Fire
Chiefs for assistance. Please distribute this letter to your respective
constituents to provide for widest dissemination - especially to the
volunteer fire department organizations.
The issue is the purchase and storage of large quantities of consumer
fireworks by non-profit organizations. An example would be a volunteer
fire department setting up a "4th of July Fireworks Tent" that is
selling the fireworks to raise money.
The problem discovered is the individuals who purchase the large
quantities of fireworks transport the fireworks using personal vehicles
and are not in compliance with the HMR. Additionally, many non-profit
organizations are not aware of the proper storage requirements for the
fireworks.
As we are all aware, this is a common practice for many volunteer fire
departments across the nation. Please assist PHMSA in distributing this
important safety message.
The advisory letter can also be found on PHMSA's web-site http://www.phmsa.dot.gov/hazmat

Keeping Our Chemical
Facilities Safe has been released in softcover and can be purchased here.
We hope to have the hardcover out in the next couple of months.
Remember that the regulatory part
is a a bit out of date as there are constant updates by DHS, but the
process of completing a Security Vulnerability Assessment and Site
Security Plan are still valid.

interested in working with us directly to make your community,
business, or agency safer, please contact us at: info@oursafetowns.com.
